“They Wanted to Use My Talent, Then Use Me As Scapegoat — I Walked”

Nigeria taught me this—anywhere in the world—talent is both weapon and trap.

And if you don’t know who you are, you’ll become a highly-skilled errand boy—dragged into other people’s drama, then blamed when their empire starts leaking.

Let me tell you how I almost got caught in one.

🎭 THE FRONT-END LOOKED CLEAN

I was approached by a high-profile media outfit with a large following and big brand energy.
Buzzwords flying everywhere:

“We need your genius behind the scenes.”
“You’re the missing piece. We’re building the next Netflix for Africa.”
“You’ll handle strategy, backend ops, content pipeline, platform scale, monetization.”

They knew my playbook. They had seen my results.

The offer was:

  • Strategic Director role.
  • Silent executor.
  • Full autonomy.
  • ₦3m/month with backend bonuses.

The whole thing smelled like gold.

🧠 BUT I STARTED SEEING THE ROT

Week 1: No proper documentation of deals.
Week 2: “Investors” calling me directly asking why ROI hasn’t started.
Week 3: Discovered there were multiple “strategic directors”—each told a different version of the plan.

I sat quietly and observed.
On paper, they wanted a fix.
In spirit, they wanted a fall guy.

“If you don’t stand still, they can’t pin the knife in your back.”

💣 THE MEETING THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Investor Zoom call.
CEO started shifting blame subtly:

“We’ve brought in execution muscle (that’s me), and once we get clarity, things will move.”

Wait.
I hadn’t signed anything.
No operational power had been handed over.
Yet they were using my credibility to keep investors calm.

That day, I made my decision.

💥 I WALKED — AND NEVER LOOKED BACK

I didn’t argue.
Didn’t fight.
Didn’t send one long email.

I called the investor they were trying to pacify with my name and said:

“Sir, I have not taken control of anything on this project. They are on their own. If you want execution, I’ll build it clean, outside of this circus.”

Then I went quiet.

One month later:

  • The company had collapsed.
  • ₦18m of investor funds unaccounted for.
  • CEO disappeared from Lagos.

They tried to reach me for “clarification.”
I said nothing.

⚖️ THE RULES OF THIS GAME ARE DIFFERENT

If you’re good at what you do, people will either want to:

  1. Use you to clean their mess, or
  2. Use you to hide their failure.

That’s why I built Mr Resourceful.

So I never again have to walk into someone else’s chaos without the power to control the outcome.

This is not another hip-hop hype.
This is hard truth from the trenches.
And if you’ve ever been burnt by “smart” people with dirty hands, then you know exactly why I wrote this.

I execute or I don’t enter.
Simple.
